When you are a student, meals are always important. Now that you are living away from home you’ll have to learn how to cook for yourself. This’ll mean that you won’t have your mother and father there for you to prepare all of that food for you. You won’t be able to afford to go out every night either since the maintenance loan only covers how much you should be able to live on.
Now this website isn’t suggesting that you don’t cook meals. It however is suggesting that this will be your first time properly shopping for yourself. Being a student you should be aware of the types of food you should buy. Buying shops own branded products are always a good start as they tend to be cheaper than their home branded types. The quality may be slightly different but it’s worth it if you save over a pound.
When cooking away at University you may find that cooking group meals is cheaper and more effective then cooking by yourself for a year. Splitting the cost of a meal is always good and if you do it on regular occasions then chances are that you’ll have a good diet and you’ll try new stuff.
Another advantage of group meals is that it is much more social then if you were to eat a meal by yourself in your room. It forces you to have social interaction with your flat/house mates, however if you do cook food for yourself don’t be discouraged, however you should try and eat with other people around so that you remain social.
Below are some meals you could try out in a group. A list of ingredients and instructions are given below the picture so that you can create this during your university experience.
